Go beola involves the shaving of the head, a ritual act often carried out after the loss of a loved one. I used this symbolically to represent mourning oneself and grieving one’s past self. In this painting, the man is being shaved by another person, symbolizing the coddling often extended to men by society especially when it comes to correction. This dependency rarely leads to genuine transformation.
