This series of intimate miniature oil paintings explores the relationship between a mother and her son within a contemporary Botswana household. Drawing inspiration from the writings of Bell Hooks, I examine the self-actualisation of a young man raised within a matrilineal family structure, considering how identity is shaped through maternal influence, care, and inherited ways of being.

The body of work consists primarily of miniature oil paintings, with the exception of Mama, whose larger scale is intentional. Its size reflects the emotional and symbolic weight of the matriarchal figure within the series, positioning her as the central force around which the narrative unfolds.

The intimate scale of the remaining paintings evokes the physical dimensions of family photographs, reinforcing the work's engagement with memory and personal history.
